28th March 2017 – Burning Bunker Faces

One of the most distinctive features of our golf course is the stunning bunker revetting. in the past much of the brickwork was lost due to grass growth on the faces, in previous years we have sprayed a total weedkiller. this is fantastic for killing off grass however the dead grass still needs to be removed and this can compromise the faces when scraping the dead grass off. Burning saves any chemical and gives us an instant removal where as roundup takes a few weeks to work. We can control any small weeds by spot treating with roundup in the summer.

South facing bunkers naturally burn off where as other bunkers burn off naturally in random places. by burning of mechanically we can give a consistent look to all of the bunkers.

The faces will now be blown as often as possible to stop sand build up.
